Swing Arm Bush: Fitting Location and Selection Guide

Motorcycle pivot selection guide

Identify the mounting before choosing a swing arm bush

A rubber-to-metal swing arm bush fits a specified motorcycle swingarm mounting. Customers may call this component a swingarm bush, pivot bush or swingarm bushing. Start with the fitting location and original part reference, then compare the rubber profile, metal-sleeve arrangement and complete dimensions for the intended application.

This guide explains what to identify before requesting a replacement or a manufactured component. It helps buyers assemble useful enquiry information; the vehicle documentation and a competent technician remain the references for inspection and fitting.

Where is the swing arm bush fitted?

The swingarm connects the rear wheel assembly to the motorcycle frame through a pivot arrangement. Where a bush is specified, it sits within the designated pivot mounting with the associated shaft, sleeves and hardware.

In the photograph, the frame-side pivot eyes are on the left. The long slots at the right-hand ends are rear axle adjustment locations. The highlighted eye identifies a pivot-bush fitting area, rather than an axle slot. Check the model drawing to confirm which components occupy that mounting.

What makes up a rubber-to-metal swing arm bush?

In a bonded bush, the rubber element and specified metal sleeves form a component designed around its mounting. Review the complete part rather than selecting it by outside diameter alone.

Component detailWhat to confirm
Rubber elementConfirm the rubber profile, compound, specified hardness and bonding requirements shown on the approved drawing.
Inner sleeveRecord the bore, sleeve length and any projection beyond the rubber body. Check these details against the pivot mounting specification.
Outer sleeveWhere specified, confirm the outside diameter, overall length and locating features that match the swingarm mounting.

Use the approved construction for the assembly. Any proposed change to the rubber profile, sleeve arrangement or material should be reviewed against the application requirements before manufacture.

Build a complete fitment reference

Record the brand, exact model, year or variant and original part number where available. A drawing or clear sample photographs should show the bush profile and sleeve arrangement. Include:

  • Inner diameter and the relevant pivot-shaft or bolt dimensions.
  • Outer diameter, body length and inner and outer sleeve lengths.
  • Shoulders, flanges, offsets and other locating features.
  • Drawing tolerances, material requirements and specified hardness.

Dimensions taken from a worn or distorted sample may differ from its original specification. Identify that condition when sharing measurements so the manufacturer can discuss drawing confirmation and sample approval.

When should the mounting be inspected?

Unusual movement at the pivot, new knocking noises, visible rubber damage or a change in rear-wheel tracking can justify a competent suspension inspection. Those symptoms can also come from other components, so they do not establish that the bush alone needs replacement.

A technician should assess the relevant mounting, shaft, fasteners and surrounding suspension parts using the vehicle's service information. Avoid selecting a replacement from appearance alone or applying another model's fitting procedure. Correct part identification and installation requirements belong together.

Select material and dimensions together

For a manufactured swingarm pivot bush, the compound, hardness, geometry and sleeve arrangement should follow the approved drawing and application requirements. Temperature, environmental exposure and the intended movement also influence the review. A harder material is not automatically a suitable substitute.

Include any required inspection method, acceptance limits and reporting needs with the enquiry. Dimensional checks, material requirements and additional testing should be agreed for the component and order.

TVS, Bajaj, Honda and Hero enquiries

Maurflex accepts swing arm bush enquiries for TVS, Bajaj, Honda and Hero applications. Supply the exact model or assembly reference, available part number and dimensions for review. A brand name by itself does not identify the required bush, and different models or variants may use different mounting arrangements.

Keep related suspension requirements distinct

Rickshaw leaf spring bushes are a separate suspension requirement. Identify the rickshaw model, leaf-spring mounting and bush dimensions independently; see our leaf spring bushings range for related enquiries.

For a manufacturing quotation, send Maurflex the drawing or sample details, required quantity, inspection needs and delivery country. Our team can review the component specification and identify further information needed for domestic or export supply.
